Getting Started

A few simple habits make a big difference when working with seeds, cuttings, and enclosed growing environments.

Keep changes minimal

  • Sudden changes often cause more stress than slow progress.
  • Avoid moving plants between very different environments too quickly.
  • When in doubt, let conditions stabilize before making another adjustment.

Work clean

  • Use clean hands and clean tools whenever opening or handling growing media.
  • Avoid touching substrate, cut ends, or internal surfaces unnecessarily.
  • Small contamination events are easier to prevent than to fix later.

Observe before adjusting

  • Not every plant follows the same timeline.
  • Condition matters more than forcing a schedule.
  • Watch for actual signs from the plant before changing airflow, water, or environment.

SEEDS

Seeds & Germination

Depth, moisture, and environmental stability all influence germination success.

Sowing Depth Matters

Use seed size as a general guide when deciding how deep to sow.

Sowing depth guide
Tiny seeds Surface sow or barely cover
Larger seeds About 2× seed thickness
Why it matters Too deep can reduce germination success

ENVIRONMENT

Water & Environment

Controlled moisture is helpful, but too much handling or overfilling can create unnecessary issues.

Water Top-Off

  1. Open in a clean environment.
  2. Avoid wetting leaves unless necessary.
  3. Avoid touching the inside of the Capsule.
  4. Only open the Capsule briefly.
  5. Add a small amount of distilled water.
  6. Reseal immediately.

Only a small amount of water should pool at the bottom of the net pot or substrate zone.

Less is often better

  • More water is not always better.
  • Overhandling can interrupt a stable growing environment.
  • Make small corrections instead of large swings.

Use plant signals

  • Use visual plant condition as your main guide.
  • Timelines are helpful, but they are not the final authority.
  • Healthy response matters more than hitting an exact day count.

STABILITY

Temperature & Stability

Stable conditions usually matter more than rushing progress.

Temperature changes matter more than timing

  • Stable temperature is often more important than speed.
  • Avoid sudden heat or cold stress.
  • Avoid moving between rooms with different temperatures when possible.

If unsure, pause

  • Pause airflow or environmental changes.
  • Return to the previous stable step if needed.
  • Let the plant or seed stabilize fully before trying again.

A calm environment wins

Plants and seeds respond better to consistency than constant intervention. When growth seems slow, the best move is often patience instead of another adjustment.

PROPAGATION

Cuttings & Propagation

Clean cuts and gentle handling improve the odds of success.

Steps to Take a Cutting

Start with clean tools and avoid touching cut surfaces more than necessary.

Cuttings guide
Step 1 Cut below a leaf joint
Step 2 Keep the top two or three leaves
Step 3 Push cutting into moist substrate

Advanced users: applying rooting compound to the cut area may improve the odds of success.

Tool cleanliness matters

  • Always use clean, sharp tools.
  • Disinfect before use with an appropriate cleaning solution.
  • Allow tools to fully dry before making cuts.
  • Clean cuts help reduce mold and plant failure.

HELP

Troubleshooting

Use these core reminders before making major changes.

Plant looks stressed

  • Check for recent environmental changes first.
  • Reduce unnecessary handling.
  • Return to the most stable recent condition if possible.

Seed is not sprouting

  • Recheck sowing depth.
  • Make sure conditions stayed stable long enough.
  • Avoid changing multiple variables at once.

Not sure what to do next

Pause, observe, and make one small change at a time. Consistency usually outperforms overcorrection.
